Our Puppy Placement Process

At Stillwater Kennel, we strive to place the right puppy in the right home. Because every puppy and every family is different, our placement process may differ from that of other breeders. Our process is as follows:

Joining the Waiting List

A $250 deposit is required to reserve your place on the waiting list. This deposit is applied toward the puppy’s total purchase price and is generally non-refundable.

If, through no fault of the family, a suitable puppy is not available from the selected litter, the family may choose to receive a refund or transfer the deposit to a future litter. For example, this may occur if the litter does not include enough puppies of the preferred sex or color for everyone on the waiting list.

After the Puppies Are Born

Once the puppies are born, we contact approved families in waiting-list order. We provide information about the number, sex and color of the puppies and ask whether each family wishes to proceed with that litter.

Families who choose to proceed are required to make an additional $750 litter deposit. This payment is also applied toward the puppy’s total purchase price.

Puppy Evaluations and Placement

Final puppy placements are not made until the puppies are approximately six weeks old. By this age, their individual personalities, energy levels and temperaments are beginning to emerge.

When a family joins our waiting list, we ask about the household and the qualities they hope to find in a Boxer. This includes:

• The presence and ages of children

• Other dogs or animals in the home

• The family’s typical activity level

• Preferred personality and energy level

• Whether the dog will regularly travel with the family

• The family’s home, property and general lifestyle

Some families want a relaxed companion, while others want an active dog that can accompany them on walks, runs, trips or other activities. We evaluate the puppies at approximately six weeks of age and use the information provided by each family to help determine the best possible match.

Although a family’s preferences are carefully considered, we cannot guarantee a specific puppy based solely on color, markings or appearance. Temperament and suitability for the home remain our highest priorities.

Veterinary Care and Puppy Pickup

At approximately eight weeks of age, the puppies receive a veterinary examination, their initial vaccinations and any other age-appropriate care.

After the veterinary appointments are completed, we coordinate pickup arrangements with each family. Because we frequently have families from the Northeast and still have family in Upstate New York, we may transport puppies to Greene, New York, for scheduled pickup.

Other arrangements, including meeting partway or approved transportation options, may also be available and must be discussed in advance.

The remaining balance of $1,500 is due at pickup. The total puppy price is $2,500, including the $250 waiting-list deposit and the $750 litter deposit.

A 3% processing fee will be added to Venmo payments submitted as a purchase and to payments made through PayPal.
