Stillwater Kennel is a small, family-owned Boxer kennel located in Upstate South Carolina.
My name is Joshua Gould. My wife, Jennifer, and I live with two of our four children in Anderson, South Carolina, where our dogs enjoy more than two acres of space to run and play. Before moving south, we lived and raised Boxers in Greene, New York. We still have family in Upstate New York, as well as many wonderful families throughout the Northeast who own dogs from our kennel. When needed, we may be able to arrange transportation for puppies to the Northeast.
Our love for Boxers began shortly after we were married in 1999. We quickly fell in love with the breed’s loyalty, affectionate nature, intelligence, and entertaining personality. Unfortunately, our first two Boxers experienced significant health problems, including skin cancer. Our first Boxer, Zeus, had to be put down at only five years old. We were devastated by the loss, and that experience motivated me to learn more about Boxer health, genetics, and responsible breeding.
From that point forward, we committed ourselves to choosing dogs from quality bloodlines with appropriate health testing. Today, we primarily own European-line Boxers. In our experience, these dogs have had fewer health concerns and typically display the muscular build, broader heads, deeper chests, and more balanced energy level we value in the breed.
After years of careful planning, we began building our breeding program around strong, proven bloodlines. We have now been breeding Boxers for more than 13 years and continue to expand our knowledge with every generation.
My previous experience as a K-9 officer with the local sheriff’s department also gave me valuable insight into canine temperament, working ability, and training. That experience continues to influence the qualities we prioritize in our breeding program.
Our goal is to help preserve the Boxer’s original purpose and working ability. In Europe, Boxers continue to participate regularly in working sports such as Schutzhund, while this is far less common in the United States. At Stillwater Kennel, we strive to produce beautiful, affectionate, and fun-loving family companions that also possess the health, sound temperament, confidence, and working drive for which the breed was originally developed.
